Parsons Pole Bridge Deck Replacement

Project brief: To Install a new Steel Frame bridge over the River Teme in Herefordshire replacing the existing steel truss bridge that had reached the end of its lifecycle.

Work detail...

  • Set-up road closure and site compound in adjacent field.
  • Install sandbag coffer dams working closely with ecologists to form a contained dry area around each abutment.
  • Install abutment support beams using platypus ground anchors.
  • Remove the existing bridge using a large crane and load onto a lorry for transport off site.
  • Upgrade the existing abutments with reinforced concrete landing slabs and holding down bolts.
  • Fit new bridge supplied by bridge specialist.
  • Clean all approach drainage and install rock armour to protect abutments from scouring.
  • Reinstate road surface and fit new barriers, approach stone parapets and fencing.
