About

Here in the Golden Valley of Herefordshire, Golden Valley Construction has grown from a family start-up into a trusted civils and surfacing contractor with decades of hands-on experience.

We combine local knowledge with a practical, can-do approach—bringing the right plant, the right people and a meticulous eye for safety to every site. We’re approachable, straight-talking and proud of the long-term relationships we’ve built with clients across the region.

From small private works to complex infrastructure, we plan and deliver projects end-to-end: groundworks and drainage, kerbs and ducting, concrete works and retaining structures, resurfacing and bridge maintenance. Every job is methodically organised, fully insured, and carried out by trained operatives, with SafeContractor approval and Constructionline Gold accreditation underpinning our standards. Expect clear advice, tidy sites and dependable delivery—on time, on budget, and built to last.

Our history

The family business started way way back in the 1950s under the name of Hereford Resurfacing.

Hereford Resurfacing were the main contractors for building Greyfriars Bridge and the inner relief road which is the dual carriageway either side of Greyfriars Bridge (also known as The New Bridge to Herefordians).

In 1969, Hereford Resurfacing became GI Hales & Sons (Civils & Resurfacing) building over 1,000 homes in Bobblestock and over 1,000s homes in Newton Farm Estate, employing over 400 staff and shaping Hereford!

In 1977, GI Hales & Sons (Civils & Resurfacing) changes name to Golden Valley Construction with Chris Hales taking over the reigns from his Father, Geoffrey Ivor Hales.

The rest, is history….
